WHO SHE IS Virtual Film Screening & Panel --
Presented by the League of Women Voters of Wyoming.
Please join us MAY 2, 2023 at 9:00 pm for this special virtual film screening of the documentary film WHO SHE IS followed by a panel discussion and audience Q&A with the filmmakers and leaders in Wyoming working on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women/People (MMIW/P) in Wyoming and beyond. The program is presented by the League of Women Voters of Wyoming with support from the League of Women Voters of Fremont County (Wyoming).
About WHO SHE IS:
Say my name and I will live forever....Sheila. Lela. Jocelyn. Abbi. These are the women hidden within the statistics of the Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women epidemic in the U.S. Meet them. See them. Say their names. They are “Who She Is”.
WHO SHE IS tells the story of four individual women caught in the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) epidemic. By bringing these missing women to life on screen, through animation and first-person storytelling, the documentary aims to humanize the people behind the statistics. Through these women, the documentary hopes to shine a light on the wider MMIW epidemic and gendered violence. The film was Co-Directed and Co-Produced by Wyoming-based filmmakers, Jordan Dresser and Sophie Barksdale and produced by Caldera Productions. The film was made possible by funding from the Wyoming Division of Victim Services on behalf of the Wyoming Missing & Murdered Indigenous Persons Task Force.
This film is unrated. The film and post screening conversation deals with topics relating to MMIW/P including domestic abuse, gendered violence, kidnapping and death. Viewer discretion is advised. Please take care of yourself and your community.
Rebekah's Legacy will be presented at this event. Thank you Anna Slown for this amazing opportunity to share Rebekah's Story of Domestic Violence and Missing Persons.
Take Back the Night is April 11-12! Take Back the Night is a multitude of events and opportunities to learn about sexual violence and support survivors. There will also be a focus on missing indigenous people, an often overlooked crisis in Montana. We will have an art exhibition all day Tuesday and Wednesday in the SUB Ballrooms. Plus, on Wednesday from 5-8 pm there will be talking circles, self-care, and SASA will be hosting a chalking and vigil. Please come out and show your support!
